Kindle Fire vs. iPod Touch 8G vs iPad 2
This has been a very eventful week for Apple...On Oct. 4th, Apple announced the coming of the latest iPhone (to mixed reviews)...Which turned out to be a 4s model as opposed to the highly anticipated 5 (some expected a lightweight aluminum unibody design, similiar to that available in the MacBook Pro)...And then another blow to the giant in the computing industry...Founder and former CEO of Apple Inc., Steve Jobs died the following day, Oct. 5th...Wow...
Now, back to the comparison...At the news event on Oct. 4th, Apple presented the iPod Touch 8G (shipping out on Oct.12th), now at a reduced cost of $199 (hmm..that's a familiar price tag...oh yeah, that's right...that's the price of the highly anticipated Kindle Fire due out on Nov. 15th)...Well okay, so if you didn't know before reading this now..they are both priced the same...At that price they both have 8 GB of internal storage too...They both have color touchscreens and dual processors...You can watch TV shows and movies on both Kindle Fire and iPod Touch 8G and of course read books, magazines and newspapers...
Okay, now on to the differences...The iPod Touch 8G is about the size of your typical mobile phone (they call them cellphones, where i come from), while the Kindle Fire is about the size of your typical romance novel (in the states), but less than a half inch thick...The iPod Touch 8G has a camera and built-in microphone which is convenient for doing video chats or recording things as you go about your way...The Kindle Fire has no camera or microphone, which is a plus if you work in one of those government or restricted jobs that does not allow recording devices or cameras on the premises...
So that's my take on it...Those are what I consider to be the most important differences in features between the Kindle Fire and the iPod Touch 8G...
Oh yeah, that's right I am supposed to be comparing Apple's iPad 2 to the Kindle Fire as well...Okay, let's hit it...The iPad 2 starts it's price range from about $499 (the 16 GB model)...Now in terms of size, the iPad 2 is the biggest of the three, with Kindle Fire (7.5 x 4.7in) fitting right in between the iPod Touch 8G (4.3 x 2.4in) and the iPad 2 (9.5 x7.31in)...Now, I am sure you remember that I said the Kindle Fire doesn't come with a camera...Well the iPad 2 has two cameras...Now that's slick...All three devices actually boast some sort of cloud storage capabilities and can do some sort of synchronization with other devices too...They all have some sort of rechargeable batteries that can last for five or more hours, activity dependent, of course...But the iPad 2 is available to purchase right now, as opposed to the other two...The iPod Touch 8G will be available in a few days, while Amazon is currently taking pre-orders for the Kindle Fire which will be available next month...
Now, below this comparision/review, that i assumed you have just read, you will find a long table that I put together, that just about made me cross-eyed-and-crazy, so that you can see all the gory details for yourself...
